Appalachian Forest Farmer Coalition Partner
Grow Appalachia

Mission:

Grow Appalachia, a strategic initiative of Berea College, works to strengthen the capacity of Central Appalachian communities to feed themselves and their neighbors. We partner with organizations and families to create healthy, resilient, and economically viable food systems through gardening, farming, and foodways education.

Vision:

We envision an Appalachia where food security is a reality for every household. By supporting "Appalachian Foodways" and small-scale forest producers, we aim to preserve traditional mountain knowledge while fostering modern economic opportunities.

Service Area:

Central Appalachia, including Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, and Tennessee.

Featured Programs:

  • Farmer Development: Providing multifaceted support for beginning and established farmers to scale their operations.

  • Appalachian Foodways Fellowship: Celebrating and supporting the tradition-bearers who maintain the region’s unique agricultural and wild-harvested heritage.

  • Garden Grants: Distributing resources to non-profits across the region to support community-based food production.

Resources:

  • High Tunnel Services: Technical assistance for season extension, a critical tool for diversified mountain farms.
